Texas Authors Institute of History (TAIH) Low-Income Author Grant Program Policy

 

Purpose

The Texas Authors Institute of History (TAIH) is committed to fostering inclusivity and providing support to underrepresented and financially disadvantaged authors. This policy outlines the eligibility requirements and application process for participation in our Low-Income Membership Program and Lone Star Festival Vendor Space for Low-Income Authors initiative.

Grants are distributed quarterly.  Applications must be received by e-mail before the following dates:

March 31st, June 30th, September 30th, and December 31st. 

There is no set number of grants given out each quarter. The number of grants approved each quarter is based on the TAMIH expenditures and income for the given quarter.

 

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for these programs, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Income Requirement:
    • Applicants must have a total annual income of $50,000 or less.
    • Proof of income (such as a recent tax return, pay stub, or income verification letter) may be required for verification.
  2. Identity Requirement:
    • Applicants must identify as a member of a historically marginalized racial or sexual identity group.
    • Self-identification will be honored, but additional supporting documentation (such as a personal statement) may be requested for verification purposes.
  3. Residency:
    • Applicants must be residents of Texas or demonstrate a strong connection to the Texas writing community.
  4. Publishing Status:
    • Applicants must be actively working on a book project or have published at least one book (self-published or traditionally published).

  1. Lone Star Festival Vendor Space for Low-Income Authors

Application Process

  1. Submission:

    • The application must include:
      • Proof of income.
      • A self-identification statement (if applicable).
      • A brief author bio and details of their writing career.
      • An author pic
      • Link to purchase book or Amazon Author Page
  2. Review & Approval:
    • Applications will be reviewed by a TAIH committee.
    • All information provided will remain strictly confidential.
  3. Notification:
    • Applicants will receive a response within 30 days of submission.
